  CHAPTER ONE

  Luna

BLOOD STREAMED DOWN the new werewolf’s arm. Screams pierced the air sending chills up Luna’s spine.

Luna’s eyes snapped open...she sat in her hotel room, safe from the blood and screams. She took in a few short breaths trying her best to calm down and grabbed her heart-shaped necklace. Sweat coated her skin making her black curls cling to her face. Snores vibrated through the walls reminding her she wasn’t alone. Sometimes her good hearing came in handy.

Her breathing finally evened out as she took in her surroundings. In her little hotel room, the scientists couldn’t hurt her but the screams of pain echoed in her mind from the nightmare she had lived through. Part of her wished she had the amazing wolf eyes but she had only gained a few wolf traits from her father, like the hearing and healing a bit faster than humans.

"Angie and Hector saved me.” She stretched her arms above her head. “I'm in the clear. I’m safe." Luna shuffled to the bathroom and with every step memories of that fateful night rolled in. After spending a about four years in the cage, she expected her guardian Kerine to come rescue her with her magic ablaze. Luna winced at the thought. Once she hit about six years in the lab, Luna never expected to see daylight again. Changes in her little hell usually meant more pain on her end but when they dragged a mated wolf into the lab, change seemed to be on her side for once. Angie had a special side to her unlike the rest of the wolves, Luna’s blood didn’t kill the new wolf.

This miracle saved both of them.

A laugh left Luna’s lips as she recalled Hunter blasting down the doors with his bare fists. Instead of getting a witch in shining armor she received a raging wolf, hell bent on killing everything moving. Him and his buddy Ash did just that and killed the security guys with all the scientists. Save the woman! Angie had yelled before Ash had reached her. The magic words had saved her life forming a bond with the woman stronger than anyone else in Luna’s life thus far. Luna rolled her shoulder to ease the tension and the hum of magic filled the room.

“Why couldn’t I have a normal freaking life?” The lights flickered and the tv turned on and off a few times. Light from a nearby hotel snuck in through the little slit in the curtains, reminding her of the city. Columbus, Ohio waited for her. But she wasn’t interested in exploring it, she would be heading south in search of her mother. She let out a deep breath and her magic stopped going crazy. Werewolves may be public knowledge but witches weren’t out of the freaking caldron. Luna didn’t want to be the one to expose them either.

Her dark brown eyes looked back at her, she scanned over her dry skin and then moved to her hair. After two long weeks, she gave in and used magic to tame the beast from the years of neglect with two showers a week. Before her years in the scientist grips, she had been raised by a witch, Kerine in Crescent Valley Utah. The one who she thought was on her side, the woman who had betrayed her was now dead. Kerine had been yelling with Angel, a sweet elder just days before Luna met the scientists, the memory of their conversation blurred together but the power in the room had been palatable.

She climbed into the shower and let the hot water scold her skin. The years of luke warm or even cold showers were behind her forever. Determination flooded her body while she shoved her hands through her hair. Today she planned on finding her original coven before Kerine. After years of being poked and prodded she was free thanks to Ash, Hector and Angie. She called Angie last night to hear about her little twins growing so fast.

The last year she had spent her time adjusting to the world and trying her best to control the raw power she possessed in Utah. She had kept in contact with Ash, since he had been super nic
e and helpful. But after a month of slight depression Angel had given her the idea to go search for her family. Ash had been very helpful with her search even after they didn’t imprint. Too bad, that would make life a bit easier. He managed to find her mother in a coven a few hours away from Columbus Ohio. Angel had guessed her father might live near the coven but Ash didn’t find him yet. Most of the time people moved but after thirty years, her mother managed to stay in the same spot.

Luna climbed out of the shower and looked at the mirror again. She needed all the strength to get through the day of traveling and potentially meeting her mother, but she snapped her fingers to get herself dressed. Memories of her time in a cage started to slip into her mind but she shoved them back hard. She placed her necklace over her gray shirt, hints of familiar magic hummed below the surface which made the chain grow as she aged. This was the only thing she had from all the years being prisoner. With a little magic she’d hid it from the scientists.

The purple heart necklace belonged to the mother she never knew, without a doubt in her mind, the magic still rolling around inside had to be hers, but not strong enough to track. She wanted to find her mother and figure out why her parents gave her away to a different coven.

She had asked Kerine where she came from one time, but she redirected her to another task. It had broken a part of her when she heard all the awful things Kerine had done, even to her own rescuer Angie. She didn’t blame the one who killed Kerine, especially when she found out the witch had given her to the scientists.

"I can do this." Her stomach rumbled, and she rubbed her belly. "Maybe I should go eat first." The lobby had a little restaurant and she figured it would be the best place to go for breakfast. She paused and checked herself, her curls didn’t have the same bounce so she pulled at her magic and corrected it. Her eyes fluttered open and a smile lifted the edge of her lips. She grabbed her small bag, the damn thing had tons of little notes on possible topics to discuss with her mother.

When she reached the elevator, a couple bounced out onto her floor, kissing and holding hands. Part of her pondered the idea of her ever-finding love yet no male had caught her interest so far. Luna hated being so old and still a freaking virgin. The hunters took her before she even had a chance to explore that side of her. The last two years had been a dud of guys trying to get her attention and her being down right bored.

She wanted excitement and chemistry in the bedroom. She may be one of the oldest virgins to date, but she wasn't going to give it away to someone who wouldn't satisfy the needs inside of her.

Luna strolled down to the lobby and ordered chocolate chip pancakes. She wouldn't admit her weight gain had all to do with the sweets she kept eating and once she reached a healthy number she couldn't stop. Sugar had become her weakness once freed from her prison. Ash, had been kind enough to help her out with the bulk up with meat and veggies but she just loved sugar too much to stop.

She rubbed her hands together and smiled when they were set in front of her. The smell wafted up to her nose and her grin widened. When she placed a piece into her mouth she moaned quietly and relaxed.

Luna didn't want to worry about what her mother would say or what she would say if and when she found her father. It would be so nice to have a father figure in my life. She looked around the little place.

A guy with green eyes watched her. Something about the glint of happiness made her nerves settle. He didn't give off the hunter vibe or one of the nasty scientists. She liked his lean body. His strong muscular arms tightened as he helped an elderly woman out from her chair.

His short brown hair and mustache made Luna want to purr. She averted her eyes. She didn’t want him to notice she had been staring. After a few moments she looked back up to see him leaving with the older couple. She thought she heard the word grandma coming from his lips, but she wasn't sure.

Her pocket buzzed, and she pulled out her phone to find Ash texted her. ‘New lead on your dad. I found a work address in Columbus.’ She sighed and paid for the meal. Luna needed a moment to mentally prepare herself. Maybe I’ll meet my dad before I find my mother. She hoped this lead panned out, if not she would head south to find the coven. Luna just hoped for a simple reunion as she stood and pushed the chair in. Her mind started wandering back to the sexy guy and images of him pressed against her took over all the other thoughts.

Totally missed my shot at seeing him again. She looked down at her curves and winced. Goddess above, I look like shit! That sexy piece of ass wouldn't want anything to do with her, the broken little witch looking for her parents.

  CHAPTER TWO

  Hunter

HUNTER WALKED HIS GRANDPARENTS up to their hotel room with a big smile on his face. The woman with her dark caramel skin kept flashing through his mind. Her soft looking black curls curved around her face like a frame, highlighting the best part of her which were her eyes. The lust filled brown gaze made his cock twitch with need.

His grandpa opened the hotel room door and Hunter helped his grandma sit on the bed, since she had some knee problems.

"Grandma, I’ll come back tomorrow. I need to get to work or Dominic will have my ass." Hunter had already told Dominic he would be an hour late this morning and his boss understood. Family came first and even though these grandparents were human, they were still part of the pack in a way. But he learned at a young age, love isn’t unconditional like the fucking movies.

"He works you too hard. You know this right?" Grandma Reva shook her head making her white hair quiver past the hairspray. For years, when they visited, he would be the only one to come see them in their hotel. Grandma wanted more great-grandbabies but him and his two brothers still hadn’t found mates yet.

"I like to work hard. It keeps me and my wolf busy." Hunter gave her a half smile. He’d been saving up to fix his car for the last year and a half. Soon he would have enough money to buy the last few fucking parts.

"I know you have this beast inside of you, who likes to run crazy but you're a man and the last of my grandbabies. Your sisters and brothers have had their babies. Now where are yours?" She tilted her head, she wore every wrinkle with pride. The hazy in her eyes didn’t stop her looking right through him which made his wolf shift around in his mind.

"They found their mates. I just haven't found mine yet." Hunter knew his grandma would bring this topic up, she did it every time they visited. He loved Grandma Reva, but she could be a handful and always spoke her mind no matter how embarrassing.

"Well are you trying?" She raised one of her gray eyebrows. His mother had the same look on her face when she questioned Hunter. She was born a human and changed when she met Hunter’s father.

"Give him a break." Grandpa Reva kissed her head. Hunter kneeled in front of his grandmother and took her soft, wrinkly hand.

"When I find my mate, you will be the second to know." Hunter smiled.

"Second?" She faked being hit in the chest while he stood.

"She has to be first." Hunter winked, and Grandma Reva laughed with Grandpa.

"Oh, all right. Go to work and get the money you need to fix your car." She patted his shoulder while Grandpa grabbed a cup of water.

"I will Grandma." Hunter kissed her on the cheek and hugged his grandpa. He slipped out of the hotel room and saw the sexy little woman he caught staring from the restaurant. He headed straight for her and his wolf perked up wagging his figurative tail.

She met his gaze for a moment then looked at her hands. Mate? His wolf asked and Hunter wanted to find out. He didn’t move from his path right for her and he hoped she would look up again. Instead she slammed head long into his chest. Fucking smooth! When she fumbled back, he grabbed her to keep her up right. The current of the imprint buzzed under his flesh and his wolf bounced around in his head. I finally found my fucking mate! Hell yes!

"Crap. I'm sorry I-" She met his gaze and licked her lips. His cock strained against his jeans while his wolf pushed images of what she might look like naked into his
head. Her scent wasn't a wolf, but he didn't mind. He could change her later if she wanted it.

"Hi. I'm Hunter." More images of pressing her against the wall and taking her there in the hall played in his mind.

"Luna. Did we imprint?" Luna bit her lip and waited. Those deep brown eyes filled with lust.

"Yes, we did." He waited for a moment and then she lunged herself at him. Her lips pressed into his and he loved her enthusiasm. He wrapped his hand around the back of her neck bringing them deeper into the kiss. She leaned back, and he barely pushed down a growl.

"Are you staying here?" Hunter's voice dropped, and she nodded. After thanking the fucking heavens, he wanted to know where her room would be. Hopefully fucking close!

“You have to make me a promise.” Her words raced through his mind. He had no clue what she could want but he was willing to do it. He had found his mate for life and he wouldn’t be letting her go.

“What?” Hunter glanced at his watch, he would be so fucking late for work. He wanted to know what conditions she would put on him for her affection. When he met her gaze, he knew she would be completely worth all of it.

“You’re not allowed to leave me.”

  He shook his head. “Never.”

  CHAPTER THREE

  Luna

"210." SHE POINTED TO the end of the hall, she couldn’t believe she actually told him the room number. Yet the mating bond called to her so strong, she couldn’t resist. He lifted her up and she wrapped her legs around him before he slipped to her room. Once her door came into view he leaned her against the wall and she met his heated gaze.

"Are you sure you want to be mated with a wolf? Once I get in there, I won't be able to stop myself." Hunter seemed to be struggling with giving her the option to walk away. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this! Luna licked her lower lip and heat zipped down her spine. Oh, hell she would only live once and this man, no wolf, holding her was meant to be hers forever.
